This message is being sent to everyone who has a web or e-mail account on
papaya.sargasso.net (also known as papaya.infotrek.co.uk).
We have found some errors on the primary disk drive in papaya (No customer
data has been lost). Rather than replace this drive, we have decided to
accelerate our plans to migrate all accounts onto other, more powerful
servers. Papaya is in fact the oldest server we still have in production;
those of you on papaya are amongst our oldest clients, and we appreciate
your continued business!
The work will be completed in two phases, which should be mostly
transparent:
Mail changes 14 Feb 03
----------------------
On Friday, 14 February we will be moving all remaining e-mail domains over
to our new distributed mail architecture. There will be no loss of e-mail
and no downtime.
Please double-check that your incoming e-mail server is configured as
'mail.yourdomain.com'. These aliases are already configured to direct you
to the correct pop3 server. The name 'mail.infotrek.co.uk' is no longer
valid as it referred specifically to papaya.
Webmail will be relocated to http://webmail.sargasso.net/ although a
pointer will be left at the old locations. We will also be replacing the
webmail software to avoid recent authentication problems, although this
specific upgrade may be postponed until Sunday.
Web changes 15 Feb 03
---------------------
On Saturday, 15 February we will be migrating remaining web accounts to
a4s, a5s and a7s depending on the service in use. You can continue to
access your site by ftp to 'www.yourdomain.com'. Note that on the new
servers the convention is that your website will be found in the folder
'www.yourdomain.com/' rather than 'www/site/'.
There will be a couple of minutes downtime per site through the day as
accounts are migrated.
Log analysis will be suspended at this point and will not resume until
Tuesday, 18 February, at which point all backlogged data from the weekend
will be analysed.
If you have any questions about this work, please feel free to contact us.
Regards,
David
