Apologies for the delay - please see the following closing update from Engineering:
Intermittent Session Border Controller Issue on 06/08/2010 Date of incident: Friday 6th August 2010 Time of incident: Intermittent between approximately 17:45 and 18:45 Time of resolution: Approximately 18:45
Symptoms experienced:
Particular End Users that were communicating with a specific extension-side Session Border Controller temporarily experienced an intermittent loss of registration with the platform and consequently a temporary loss of new and established calls.
Cause:
After detailed analysis of logs, monitoring data etc. the cause was isolated to particular irregular behaviour of unsupported end user devices, which caused an unusual spike in the affected Session Border Controller's CPU usage. This intermittently rendered the SBC unable to process some signalling or caused delay in the processing of the requests/responses.
Resolution:
Once the root cause was identified in-life configuration of the SBC was implemented to block this specific behaviour.
On-going monitoring:
Further monitoring has been implemented on various platform monitoring tools to alert for this type of behaviour in order to prevent any possible reoccurrence and ensure any future resolution in a continued timely manner.
